About Me
Jan de Jonge (1964) is Full Professor of Work and Sports Psychology
at the Human Performance Management Group
of the Department IE & IS at Eindhoven University of Technology
in the Netherlands.
The key assignment of my chair is the optimization of performance and recovery processes in work, in organizations, and in sports. Next to this, I am interested in well-being and health outcomes in these domains (recovery and sleep inclusive), predicted from a work and sports psychological perspective.
Together with professor Christian Dormann from Mainz University, I am the founder of the well-known DISC-R Model (cf. de Jonge & Dormann, 2003, 2006) to deal with job stress, health, and performance (see also the 'research' webpage).
Other positions:
- Visiting Professor at the Loughborough University Business School (UK), in the field of Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour (since 2004);
- Adjunct Professor of Work and Organizational Psychology at the University of South Australia (since 2012);
- Visiting Professor at Utrecht University (since 2019).
Management:
Next to several chairman and management positions, I was Vice-Dean and Interim Dean of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at TU/e (2011-2018).
Editorial activities:
As far as editorial activities are concerned, I was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and Editor-in-Chief of the Dutch Journal "Gedrag & Organisatie". I was also Associate Editor of European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology.
Currently I serve as an Editorial Board member of Work and Stress, Consulting Editor for Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, and Editorial Board member of Gedrag & Organisatie.
Core business:
Teaching, research, management, consultancy and other activities are on Work Psychology, Sports Psychology, Occupational Health Psychology, Human Performance Management, and finally Research Methods & Advanced Statistics within the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences and the Department of Industrial Design.
Since 2019, I am a board member
of the Nederlandse Stichting voor Psychotechniek (NSvP), in which we deal with the future of work with particular interest in its societal impact ('working in a broader interest: access, future, and technology').
Last but not least, I am a certified run coach, runner, sports psychologist, and board member (technical chairman) of a Dutch athletic club.
Network Memberships and Collaboration
I am a member of several professional networks in the Work and Organizational Psychology arena, such as APA, SIOP, EAWOP, WAOP, EA-OHP, ICOH, and ICOH-WOPS.
I am collaborating with scholars from Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, China, Brasil, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, USA, Canada, South-Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Denmark, and Sweden. In the past I published over 200 scientific articles, books, chapters, paper and poster presentations.
